Forelsket by Sean Rees-Wemyss
Presented By Manet Collective & Brightspace Gallery
A part of South of the City.
In their second performance as a company, Manet Collective have all agreed to go blind. From the mind of one of Melbourne’s most exciting young creatives, Sean Rees-Wemyss, (Harry Potter & The Cursed Child) comes a work not to be performed by the faint hearted.
Actors in space, dialogue on a page, a story; these are the concepts that make up a play. However typically actors have read it before they perform it. Forelsket asks it’s audience to set aside what they believe theatre to be. Rees-Wemyss has debunked all rules; actors are paired at random, no one has read the play, audience and actor discover the story simultaneously. It’s top secret and once you’ve performed it you can never perform it again.
In collaboration with Brightspace, the work comes out to air in the gallery space with a cast of rising stars including Maximillian Johnson (Dead Gorgeous, High Ground), Lara Robinson (Upper Middle Bogan, Cloudstreet), Jayne-Louise O’Connell (A Lion Returns), Michael Nikou (WOOF!), Shannon Berry (Offspring), Venus Notarberardino (A Dog Called Monkey), Tehya Nicholas (The Haunting), Ben Walter (Mojo, Pillowman) and Monique Fisher (The Turning).

WHAT IS MANET COLLECTIVE?
Manet – a vintage theatre term that means ‘to remain’ and refers to a group of actors who remain on stage. The group is a community based collective, working together weekly to support, harness and challenge craft. The intention is to hold space for future inclusive theatre-making and creative development. In 2018 their previous show Idiotic Pack Noise had a sold out run, and now they’re back with more daring theatre that turns the medium on it’s head.
