A TRIVIAL COMEDY FOR SERIOUS PEOPLE
A play by Oscar Wilde
(March 27th - April 7th)
It's Oscar Wilde’s beloved masterpiece,
and it's more outrageous than it's ever been before...
Directed by Matthew Cox, Wilde’s exquisitely scandalous satire on Victorian manners is widely considered one of the funniest plays in the English language – the delightful repartee and hilarious piercing of hypocrisy and pomposity has had theatre-goers rolling the aisles for over a century. And it's Playing at the St Martins Theatre for a strictly limited season.
Two young bachelors, Algernon Moncrieff (Mark Raymond Yeates) and John Worthing J.P., (Ross Dwyer) lead double lives to court the attentions of the exquisitely desirable Gwendolen Fairfax (Olivia Solomons) and Cecily Cardew (Cazz Bainbridge). The gallants must then grapple with the riotous consequences of their deceptions... and with the formidable Lady Bracknell (James Cutler).
Running time 2 hours 10 minutes (incl. 2 x 10 minute intervals)
28 St Martins Ln, South Yarra VIC 3141
Note: Theatre Doors will open 45 minutes before each performance.
